No violence took place on the day of the recently concluded Presidential election as state security forces cooperated with the common opposition, former minister Rajitha Senaratne says.

Former minister of Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa and his wife has left for the US early this morning (11), reports say.

Moves are underway to procure defeated former President Mahinda Rajapaksa a seat in Parliament, a source in his Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) said.

Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne who broke ranks with the government to support Maithripala Sirisena at the January 8 Presidential election said that all officials, ministers and Members of Parliament who may have fled the country without facing trial for corruption and malpractice will be brought to justice with the help of Interpol (international police).

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA), Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and the JVP say they would work with the new government of President Maithripala Sirisena but have yet to decide on accepting ministerial portfolios.

An army spokesman dismissed reports that stones had been hurled at military camps in the north as well as flags hoisted by the LTTE a day after the Presidential election.
