Karunanidhi wants India to move resolution against Sri Lanka in UNHRC

A few days after the Sri Lankan Northern Provincial Council passed a resolution calling for an international probe into charges of genocide, DMK president M Karunanidhi on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider moving a "suitable" resolution in the upcoming UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva in March.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera, addressing the National Press Club in Washington DC yesterday (12), highlighted the fact that Sri Lanka and the United States are two countries that shared “common values and ideals based on a commitment to democratic principles and governance.” The Minister pointed out that people to people contact between the two countries pre-dated diplomatic relations in 1948 by 150 years.
