The 28th session of the UNHRC will see UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Investigation on Sri Lanka (OISL) submitting a report on the US-sponsored investigation into the alleged serious violations and abuses of human rights and related crimes by both parties (LTTE and the Sri Lankan government) between 2002 and 2011. 

The DMK leader's demand has come ahead of Maithripala Sirisena's first overseas visit, after being elected as Sri Lankan President. 

"The Tamil community anxiously expect the Indian government to support the adoption of the (OISL) report in UNHRC," the DMK leader said in a letter to Modi. 

Teso (Tamil Eelam Supporters' Organisation) headed by Karunanidhi adopted resolutions for international probe into genocide, more than once in the past. Karunanidhi said the Lankan Tamils voted for Sirisena during the recent presidential polls, believing that the latter would end the long-drawn chapter of unconstitutional discrimination and unchecked inhumanity meted out to them "in a very crafty and calculated manner" by the erstwhile regime of the island nation. 

"But what is now happening in Sri Lanka has upset the Tamils. The promises and announcements are too many and what has been achieved is either nil or very little," he said. 

The DMK leader accused the Sri Lankan government of not making positive signals for a time-bound action. Neither the army was withdrawn from the Tamil-dominated areas nor lands and houses belonging to Tamils returned. 

Even the check-posts curtailing the movement of Tamils have not been removed and government surveillance infringing personal liberties of Tamils not lifted. 

"To make things worse, Sirisena has issued a notification on February 2, calling out all the members of the armed forces for maintenance of public order in Tamil areas. This presidential notification will result in adverse consequences," the DMK leader said. 

Tamils in Sri Lanka and other countries wanted justice at least now for all the ills thrust upon them for the last sixty years, Karunanidhi said, appealing to Modi to take stock of the situation in Lanka and fulfil the aspirations of the Lankan Tamils. 

"We, the people of Tamil Nadu and diaspora Tamils, await positive results from your discussions with Sri Lankan president," he said.
