Foreign Minister Mr. Mangala Samaraweera and Indonesian Foreign Minister Madam Retno Marsudi agreed on Wednesday (26 October) to take forward several initiatives on the bilateral political and  economic fronts and also strengthen  cooperation within IORA as well as international fora with a view to elevate the relationship. The two Ministers met in Bali, Indonesia on the eve of the 16th Council of Ministers of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

The Supreme Court overruled preliminary objections raised by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) in a fundamental rights case filed by Sri Lanka Telecom.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake yesterday took the business community to task, warning the private sector of a wakeup call in the Budget 2017. However, he assured they would be supported as much as possible by consistent policies with proposals that would improve the business environment and foster growth. Speaking at a CEO’s Breakfast Meeting organised by the Sri Lanka-Philippines Business Council, the Finance Minister urged the private sector to be proactive in investing and expanding their businesses.
