Shame for media trying to gain cheap publicity!

Shame for media trying to gain cheap publicity! Featured

Certain media tried to gain cheap publicity for their institutions by selling a claim in a facebook page that a girl by the name Devmini fell into trouble due to a youth she befriended via facebook and subsequently had committed suicide.

Without any verification they used several photographs posted in the facebook page, and engaged in a wholesale sale similar to a girl being raped publicly.

Commenting on this, senior journalist and social activist Kusal Perera said the media has no ethical training, no care about ethics and no accountability.

The media is like salesmen and sales reps selling news in this market economy, he charged, adding that they categorize new only as popular and marketable.

For instance, they give more space to discuss atheism, horoscope reading, crime, rape, child abuse, politics and bribery and corruption than important matters.

It is very cheap for them to justify or give excuses for their mistakes, instead of tendering an apology.

One such recent instance was a falsehood spread by Gossip King linked to Swarnavahini.

It originated from a facebook page posting on April 01 (given below):
