The secretary of the Kotmale Pradeshiya Sabha who attempted to hinder preparations of Common Opposition Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena's rally scheduled for December 14 has been severely reprimanded by the Elections Commissioner.

Even though the Kandy Municipal Council had earlier given the green light to use the Kotmale public ground for the meeting, the PS Secretary had subsequently ordered to put a stop to it.

After reprimanding the PS Secretary, the Elections Commissioner has sent a letter to the Nuwara Eliya District Secretary, urging to ensure that the venue is granted for event as promised.

In his letter, the Elections Commissioner has noted to inform the PS secretary that the venue would be made available to the requesting party in accordance with the powers the Elections commission is vested under the 17th amendment to the Constitution.

The Elections Commissioner has also urged the District Secretary to inform him of the measures being taken by the PS secretary on this regard.
