Arms deal goes awry : 4 including STF personnel nabbed

Four including a Police Inspector of the STF, a suspended STF constable and a former Army soldier have been arrested yesterday (15) after they had arrived in Bandaragama for a firearms deal, police say.

They have come to Bandaragama in a luxury car, reports add.

Police have also seized 2 pistols and 29 live ammunition in their possession. According to the numbers on the firearms, it is suspected that the firearms belonged to the LTTE.

The arrested STF Inspector - T.M.U.B. Tennakoon is said to be a nephew of a former secretary to the ministry of Law and Order.

The suspects are to be produced before the Horana Magistrate today.
