Chinese get banking boost in Sri Lanka Featured

For the first time in the history of banking in Sri Lanka, Chinese nationals have been given a say in the country's economy and finances with the National Development Bank (NDB) setting up a separate unit for them, the China news agency Xinhua reported.

It was reported further that the system was made after obtaining the expertise of a Sri Lankan national who had served in China for over 15 years.

As many as 25 Chinese companies are reported to have sought the services of this new bank facility at NDB within the first three months, it has been further reported while more banks to cater to the Chinese will be opened in Hambantota.

In this new tie-up the China Development Bank, China Construction Bank and the Commercial Bank of China will have a big say in the island's new banking arm while several more Chinese Nationals are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka for business dealings in rupees with banking cards provided.

This year alone as many as 117,667 Chinese nationals arrived in the island.
