Provincial Councils will retain their Executive powers says Maithripala Featured

Common Opposition Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena will relinquish the powers of the Executive Presidency after his election, but will have Provincial Councils retain their executive powers under the Constitution.

Sirisena made the revelation in an interview with the BBC's Sinhala service Sandeshaya journalist Saroj Pathirana from his official residence in Colombo.

He however said that the title of Commander-in-Chief heading the armed forces will continue under the Presidency as it is but within a framework where executive powers will not have a say.
Sirisena also reiterated in the interview with the BBC's Sandeshaya service that relief for the people from the high cost-of-living will also be drastically addressed under the 100-day campaign to rid the Presidency of executive powers.

He also said that problems facing minority communities will be addressed under an all party government.
