Police said the navy cadet, who was also 26 years of age, had used his T56 service weapon to commit the murder last night before turning the gun on himself. The victim died after being admitted to the Matara hospital. The T56 weapon together with two magazine clips containing 43 rounds of T56 ammunition have been taken into police custody.

Police said information has come to light that a love affair between the two deceased had led to the murder-suicide.
