Action with regard to around 25 complaints has not gone beyond the attorney general and the IGP, he has told BBC Sandeshaya.
As a result of the ‘good governance’ regime having accepted the corrupt into its fold, prosecution of some of them had not taken place, he charged.
Good governance or funny governance?
Those caught having committed fraud and corruption during the previous regime are ministers of this government. Good governance has become funny governance now, he stressed, adding that Ranil Wickremesinghe and Maithripala Sirisena should be held accountable for breaching public trust.
If the accused are found to be not guilty, that should be announced, but that is not being done because the allegations against them are proven beyond any doubt, he said.
Lalith Weeratunga didn’t steal
No arrests have been made since Basil Rajapaksa was arrested, but legal action has been taken only against Lalith Weeratunga and a private company, said Samarasinghe.
Weeratunga did not steal, as a public servant, he had to do what the former political leaders ordered him to do. In the end, the thief is free, the public servant is behind bars, he charged.
The Voice against Corruption will place all complaints that are not properly dealt with before the public, Samarasinghe added.
Police response
Responding to these allegations, police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said all complaints would be investigated and action taken in accordance with the law.
Police will act impartially to punish the corrupt irrespective of their positions, he said.
Certain investigations are of a complex nature and time consuming, but there is no political interference, said the police spokesman.
