Noting that this situation is being reported from many areas of this island, he said that this could become a major health issue in the future and therefore, should be addressed properly.
The Provincial Director of Education was speaking at a programme initiated to develop sanitation facilities in schools of the Sabaragamuwa province.
Students tend to avoid using school toilets due to lack of proper cleaning and maintenance, he added.
At the programme, funds were distributed with 20 National schools and 95 provincial schools receiving Rs. 2.8 million each for the purpose.
