The Government Medical Research Technologists Association warns of a recurrence of solar storms, known as the the Carrington Flare, the most powerful of which was reported 150 years ago in 1859.
These solar geomagnetic storms, which have a power of 10 billion times that of an atomic bomb, will have devastating effects on life on Earth, says secretary of the association Keerthi Wickremaratne.
NASA has spoken of the possibility of a recurrence after 2010, according to him.
