The family of JVP founder - Rohana Wijeweera has been formally requested to evict the Naval barracks in Welisara where they are residing in, the 'Sath Handa' newspaper reports.

The quarters have to be handed in on October 01, the newspaper adds.

Following the arrest and murder of Rohana Wijeweera, his wife - Chithrangani Wijeweera and their five children handed themselves over where they were initially held at the Ganemulla Army Camp.

After being housed at the SLN Dockyard in Trincomalee, they were later moved to the naval barracks in Welisara where they have lived under state patronage.

However, on February 26, the Navy commander ordered them to leave on February 26, 2015.

The newspaper further reports as follows :

The family, who has been living amid fear and social stigma for the past 26 years, have nowhere to go and no one has come forward to provide them of a secure place to move.

Mrs. Wijeweera has requested the present government to facilitate them to move overseas as living in Sri Lanka is quite problematic.

The written request, made to Foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera on March 20, 2015, is yet to be responded to.

The letter has elaborated on the hardships they have had to face and how the education of her children has been obstructed.

The letter adds that her children are not to be blamed for the activities of her husband and the JVP. Although her children are being blamed thus, the JVP leaders who were connected to these activities face no blame, she adds.

Noting that the JVP has never intervened to ensure the freedom of her children, Mrs. Wijeweera charges that the party had attempted to secure political gains by using her children.
