Fr. Sathivel was speaking during a protest held by the Mothers and Daughters of Lanka. The protest demonstration held yesterday (18) in front of the Fort Railway Station urged the government to impose strict punishments for rapists.

Noting that countless numbers of rape took place during the war era in the North - East region, Fr. Sathivel said that Lankan women and children became rape victims of the Indian Peace Keeping Force as well.
However, a voice against these rapes was not raised in the South back then, Fr. Sathivel charges, adding that the wave of rape has now spread to the South of the country.
Politicians who were responsible for the war are also responsible for these accounts of rape, he added.
Noting that such rapists are also connected to drugs, Fr. Sathivel says that politicians connected to drugs are now ruling in Parliament and that he hopes that the 'Good Governance' government will kick out such individuals.
If not, the women and children of this country will be unprotected, he added.
