The PWJA met with Minister of Economic Development - Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Mass Media and Information - Keheliya Rambukwella and the Media ministry secretary - Charitha Herath yesterday (14).
At the meeting, the government has agreed to remove access control locally imposed on the two locally based websites - 'Sri Lanka Mirror' and 'The Independent', that are members of the PWJA.
The government has also agreed to provide training and other necessary facilities to journalists, in collaboration with the PWJA.
It has also been agreed to speed up the website registration process, giving special prominence to member websites of the PWJA.
Reports further say that the government has also agreed to look into several profession-related issues such as providing media accreditation for web journalists.
The PWJA has also urged the government to remove access control locally imposed on news websites operating from abroad including Lanka E News, Lanka News Web, Colombo Telegraph and Tamil Net.
At the meeting, it was also agreed to initiate a meeting with security officials to take up issues faced by web journalists due to actions of the security forces.
