The committee appointed after Maithripala Sirisena became the president has handed over its report to the IGP, but nothing has been heard of it since, said lawyer Senaka Perera, a people’s group against the Welikada killings.
In the past, such committee reports had been used to tame political opponents, which we fear is the case with this report too, he said.
Perera said they would seek a court order for the publicizing of the report’s content, which the public has a right to know.
The Paranagama committee appointed during the Rajapaksa regime had covered up the incident, he charged.
Leader of the Nawa Sama Samaja Party Dr. Vickramabahu Karunaratne said the report of the new committee has been handed over to the prime minister only.
