Appointed by Sri Lanka Cricket to oversee security at the third ODI against Pakistan at Khettarama Stadium, Ajith Jayasekara, had been absent at the time a clash occurred between two groups of spectators, say reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.

Before the incident occurred, he was seen having alcoholic drinks at the section allotted for chairmen, and left for home as he had took many drinks.

After the clash, SLC security manager S.M. Ranasinghe had to send a car to Jayasekara’s home to bring him.

A former top Air Force officer, Jayasekara is one of the highest paid officials at SLC although he has passed retirement age.

He was recruited as the tournament manager for the 2012 premier league tournament, which was confined to just one year, but former secretary Nishantha Ranatunga kept him by giving other positions.

Jayasekara was also the commanding officer of the Katunayake Air Force base when it had come under an LTTE attack.
