IGP worried about John’s doings! Featured

The IGP is worried by law and public order minister John Amaratunga’s having obtained cabinet approval to grant a recall and service extension for retired DIG Indu Karunaratne, say police headquarters sources.
This is because there are many complaints against Karunaratne, who retired on February 17 this year.

The ministry claims it has given the service extension, as per a request by Karunaratne, which had been much delayed.

Many junior officers have to retire without getting promotions, and have to do with a lower pension, as a result of such service extensions for top officials who have passed retirement age.

Recently, DIG S.A.D.N. Gunawardena filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court over injustice caused to him due such an extension.

Although they have not sought redress from courts, DIGs Pujitha Jayasundara and Latiff too, are victims of such injustice.
