Several artistes by profession are contesting the General elections in mid August.

Ranjan Ramanayake is one such artiste while former beauty queen Rosy Senanayake is also an individual under the public spotlight.

Colombo District candidate from the UNP, Udara Rathnayake is the son of Director - Bennett Rathnayake and a budding actor. He was also elected as a Western Provincial councillor.

Geetha & Paba

From the UPFA nomination list, Upeksha Swarnamali (Paba) and Geetha Kumarasinghe are among the star-studded candidates.

Paba, who initially contested in 2010 under the UNP ticket later crossed over to the UPFA. At the present, she is given the organiser post of Divulapitiya electorate.

Geetha Kumarasinghe, who is set to contest from Galle, failed to be elected to parliament in 2010. Afterwards, she was elected as a Provincial councillor.

Yasas & Nalin from SF's party
Artiste Ravindra Yasas Kumaranayake and Nalin Pradeep Uduwela are to contest this election from Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka's Democratic Party.

2 actors from JVP
The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna too, has fielded two artistes as candidates for the upcoming General election.

One is veteran artiste Chandrasoma Binduhewa. Also, senior artiste Saranapala Jayasuriya has been named to the JVP National list.
