Rent paid for unopened centre

Rent paid for unopened centre Featured

A monthly rent of Rs. 200,000 has been paid for around two years for the building allocated for the international arbitration centre, says justice deputy minister Sujeewa Senasinghe.

Also, a huge sum had been spent to renovate the place, but the centre had not been started during the period.

Senasinghe said that soon after the new government took office, steps were taken to open the centre.

He said an investigation should be conducted to find out those responsible.

The subject minister at the time is also a cabinet minister in the new government.

Senasinghe went onto say that the justice ministry’s female secretary was being given extensions although she has long passed her retirement age.

Attempts to contact justice minister Rauff Hakeem for a response failed.
