The police have found that the vehicles that had belonged to the Secretariat were assigned to private companies while the colors of some vehicles have also been changed.
The Criminal Investigation Department informed the Court yesterday that Gunawardena, who was also a coordinating secretary of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has misused 23 vehicles attached to the Presidential Secretariat.
Police have further reported that two of these vehicles have been assigned to a private security firm on rent, two other vehicles have been painted with different colors and another still missing.
According to the law, a Presidential coordinating secretary is entitled to only two vehicles.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday (20) ordered to further remand Gunawardena until June 03.
