Gen. election after 20A Featured

President Maithripala Sirisena has assured SLFP and UPFA leaders that Parliament would not be dissolved until the 20th Amendment is passed.

Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', this fact was confirmed by media secretary of the Jathika Hela Urumaya - Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe.

The 20th Amendment seeks to introduce electoral reforms.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has urged the President to enact the 20th Amendment and hold the next General election in accordance with the new electoral reforms.

As the elections commissioner has requested a 3-month time to introduce the electoral reforms, it is highly likely that dissolution of Parliament would be deferred until September, he added.
