SLFP to oppose 19A

Opposition parliamentarians in the legislature are in the process of collecting signatures to a request to Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa to delay the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. They have called for the implementation of the 19th Amendment along with the proposed electoral reforms.

The Opposition representatives are to reportedly urge Speaker Rajapaksa to postpone the debate on the 19th Amendment on the principle that the entire process being adopted for its enactment is constitutionally flawed.

Meanwhile, a majority of the SLFP MPs have said they will vote against the 19th Amendment if it is presented to parliament without the electoral reforms.
