Wickremesinghe at a meeting with media heads at Temple Trees Thursday said that there was consensus on eliminating the Proportional Representative System and move towards a mix of the First-past-the-post and the PR systems.
He said there were discussions at the moment on the number of members who would be elected by direct vote and the proportional system.
A decision on the new electoral system which would come as the 20th Amendment to the Constitution is therefore expected to be taken within the next 10 days. The electoral reforms that are agreed to by political parties will be presented to Parliament thereafter.
Referring to the next general election, Wickremesinghe has said that according to the 100 day programme the government's work is over by April 23.
