Indo-Lanka CEPA to the fore again Featured

Bringing back an Indo-Lanka comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) is likely to be revived following bilateral visits by top officials of the two countries, economic experts say.

A committee representative of both sides is to be appointed for the purpose.

During his recent visit to Sri Lanka, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi said action would be taken to bridge the trade deficit between the two countries.

Sri Lanka has the potential of becoming India’s strongest economic partner, he said.

During 2013-14, bilateral trade stood at 5.23 billion US dollars, including 3.98 b USD of Indian exports and 678 million USD of Lankan exports.
