The petition, to be handed over to Scottish police chief Steven House will request the discontinuation of the ongoing training after its completion in March-end.
The training programme aims to help Sri Lanka to form a strategic development unit.
According to ‘The Herald’, the objective of the training last year was to instil international standards in the training of Sri Lankan police.
Tortures and killings
The petition says the Sri Lanka police have a long history of human rights violations and violence.
Human rights groups have been opposing the training since its commencement, while a report by the British foreign office, which is funding the training, claims tortures and killings while in police custody.
A recent report by Amnesty International too, says unlawful arrests and tortures were taking place at the hands of the Sri Lankan military and police.
