In a speech at a rally in support of Mahinda Rajapaksa on March 06 in Kandy, Madhumadhava said the president had agreed to give Rs. 15,000.
Later, he told a meeting with the former president and artistes at Abhayararama temple on March 24 that the incumbent had promised Rs. 10,000, whereas his predecessor donated Rs. 100,000.
Responding, the PMU says in a statement the president’s fund has given Rs. 01 million on a special permission by the president, considering Namal’s status as an artiste.
A person with a liver malfunction normally gets only Rs. 400,000 from the president’s fund.
The letter granting the money was sent by fax to the deputy Sri Lankan high commission in India, with a copy to Namal’s wife.
Namal is presently receiving treatment at a hospital in India.
