The minister was speaking at an event at the Foundation Institute in Colombo yesterday (March 01).

The minister added that the proposal would be made at the next Central Committee meeting of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), in order to pave way for the abolishing of the executive presidency, as proposed by the present government.

Speaking further, the minister has said, "I proposed to the SLFP executive committee to do away with executive presidency or to appoint a president like in India. Anyway, at the next SLFP CC meeting, I would be proposing to appoint President Maithripala Sirisena as the Executive Prime ministerial candidate."
