Justice minister Wijedasa Rajapakse, presently in London, has told BBC Sandeshaya that the government would give priority to ensure reconciliation among the communities.
For that, recommendations of the LLRC will be implemented, also in consideration of the report by international experts’ committee chaired by crown counsel Desmond de Silva, he has said.
The government is prepared to conduct a local investigation, the objective of which is not to mete out punishment, but to find the truth and to promote reconciliation, the minister has said.
External affairs minister Mangala Samaraweera has already promised to the international community that the new government would hold an investigation into the charges.
It was on that assurance that the UNHRC has decided to delay the presentation of its report on Sri Lanka.
