JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the Rajapaksa regime was facing a situation where they could not rule the country without a war.
“Once the war was ended in the North a golden opportunity was formed to build unity among the Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and all other ethnic groups in the country. But instead of doing it, the Rajapaksa regime, in order to ensure its own survival, attempted to create another racial conflict in the country,” Dissanayake said at a public rally.
“In 2015 the main election promise is to bring down corruption. In the past all election promises had been made focusing the ‘stomach’. But now for the first time people have given a mandate to fight corruption. So the JVP is fighting with its lives to see the expectations of the people fulfilled.
"The national government is going to be formed with the help of corrupt politicians. On January 8th the people did not vote against Mahinda Rajapaksa alone, but also against these corrupt politicians as well. So the JVP demands that the election be held on April 23,” the JVP Leader said.
