Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa has warned that the government will waste no time in reintroducing the death penalty to eradicate or fight a deadly crime wave in the country if it became inevitable.
He made the declaration in an impromptu Press conference with journalists today (February 3) after meeting the chief Buddhist prelates of the Asgiriya and Malwatte chapters.
The death penalty was suspended by former President JR Jayawardena in 1982 under his so-called Dharmista Samajaya or just society.
