The appointment of Supreme Court Justice K. Sripavan as the 44th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka is a sign of equality extended to all ethnic masses in the country, Northern Province governor - C.V. Vigneswaran says.

Signs of Democracy

Speaking to 'BBC Sandeshaya', Vigneswaran has said that the government's decision to appoint justice Sripavan clearly highlights the law and justice in the country while portraying its democratic traits.

He has added that the Tamil National Alliance as well as himself are delighted with the appointment.

Equality

Vigneswaran has said that his source of delight is not because Sripavan is a fellow ethnic Tamil, but because this appointment hints at the government's equal treatment extended to all masses in the country.

This would not only lead to the delight of Tamil masses but would also greatly contribute towards the building of their trust on the government, he has added.

Noting that the international community too has faith on the present political turning point of the country, Vigneswaran has further said he strongly believes that the new government would not act in a manner that would shatter the trust of any ethnic group.
