At a meeting held in Colombo on Jan. 25, the President has ensured to release them within the span of one year, as it is hard to do so within three months, the Bishop adds.
Rt. Rev. Rayappu Joseph says that he urged the President to announce an amnesty to the Tamil detainees in a similarly to that offered twice to political prisoners of the JVP.
The Mannar Bishop adds that there are around 500 ethnic Tamil political prisoners are being held in prisons island wide.
