Retd. Major fasts unto death over Terrorism Act

Retd. Major fasts unto death over Terrorism Act Featured

Retired Army Major Asitha Prabhath, who has been held at the Jaffna Prison for a prolonged period under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), has commenced a fast unto death from Jan. 26.

He is calling for the release of all political prisoners being held under the PTA as well as to scrap the Act altogether.

He is also protesting against the TID's practice of continuing cases under baseless 'proof'.

Prabhath alleges that he is being held under bogus charges after getting involved in a personal dispute with an Army officer.

Meanwhile, Mannar Bishop Rt. Rev. Rayappu Joseph says that around 500 ethnic Tamil political prisoners are being held in prisons island wide.
