The President was speaking at a national programme on narcotic drugs prevention at Hiriyala in Kurunegala yesterday (31).
There is no truth to rumours that the government has completely removed the memorial, he said, strongly condemning attempts to mislead the public by giving them wrong information.
The President said he would not allow the removal of war hereos’ memorials, adding that in the event that they have to be temporary removed owing the development work, the memorials would be restored with due respect.
President Maithripala Sirisena says he has given instructions to the defence secretary and the Army to restore the war heroes’ memorial that had temporarily been removed from near Kurunegala town due to the renovation of Kurunegala-Dambulla road.
