The appointee, Sunil Hettiarachchi, is to assume duties around 9.30 am tomorrow (01) at the ministry at Isurupaya in Battaramulla, said the media ministry.

He was a project director at the Tourism Ministry during the Rajapaksa regime, and an investigation was underway against him, but president Maithripala Sirisena has given him the appointment.

Later, he has served as an additional secretary to the president.

When he was the project director, he had completed only in mid-2013 the projects that were due to be completed by 2012, and more than Rs. 05 million under his responsibility had been misused, Auditor General’s Department sources say.

Also, acceptable details have not been submitted for the Rs. 870 million spent by him on tourism promotion projects in 2013, lankanewsline reports.
