Hantana sexual abuse suspect’s nudity is out Featured

The ‘Sathhanda’ newspaper claims that it has pictures of wealthy businessman Nimal N. Peiris, a suspect in the sexual abuse of girls at a training centre at Hantana in Kandy, posing naked with several underage girls a few years ago.

Those girls had later been supplied to VIPs.

Now out on bail, Peiris has had a round of secret talks with representatives of several leading media institutions on a Rs. 30 million project to repair the damage caused to his image.

Meanwhile, several other businessmen connected to this abuse incident are seeking the support of top police officials and VIPs to sabotage investigations by the Kandy police and the women and children’s bureau.

Of the abuse suspects, only Peiris and Chandimal Gamage, have been produced before court, while many responsible are still at large, say parents of the abused girls.

Parents, court criticize police investigations

Parents as well as Kandy chief magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala have expressed strong reservations about the manner the police investigations have been conducted so far.

When the related case was taken up on August 22, the magistrate said police had failed to counter the submissions made by lawyers for the accused, forcing him to order bail for Peiris and the three other suspects.
