The man, a member of the Army intelligence, is believed to have had direct telephone links with those who had ordered the killing of ‘The Sunday Leader’ editor.
The CID, making submissions to the Mt. Lavinia magistrate last week, said at least three Army intelligence teams had been sent for the murder.
The Army intelligence man, who led the killers, had also sent a team to assault ‘Divaina’ and ‘Rivira’ editor Upali Tennakoon and to abduct ‘The Nation’s Keith Noyahr, it has now come to light.
The bodyguards of the then Army chief Sarath Fonseka will be questioned over these three attacks on journalists.
The media at the time alleged Fonseka had sent men to kidnap Noyahr, who fled the country to save his life.
