Dentists and Ayurvedic doctors are also joining the token strike organized by the GMOA, said its secretary Dr. Navin de Soyza.
Members of the dentists association will extend their protest for 24 hours.
Also, the state services nurses union and several other unions in the health sector have extended their support, said de Soyza.
However, functions of children’s and maternity hospitals and kidney and cancer hospitals will not be affected.
Failure by authorities to favourably respond to this token strike will make them to resort to an indefinite strike, the GMOA secretary warned.
Twenty thousand government doctors are staging a four-hour token strike from 8.00 am today (04).
