The president is to take a decision on Mahendran’s future at the CB, based on the AG’s report into the treasury bond issues.
Meanwhile, JVP MP Vijitha Herath today (26) told the media that the president should appoint a new person as the CB governor.
The CB governor, appointed during the 100-day government, committed nepotism even before one month elapsed from his appointment, about which the JVP raised awareness in both parliament and the country, he said.
The party has been stressing the need to conduct a proper inquiry into the bond issue and to replace Mahendran with a suitable person, said Herath.
The CB is the heart of financial control and even a minute mistake would send the country into massive losses, he said, adding that whoever heads the institution, that person should be dealt with if found guilty of wrongdoing.
The new COPE committee, appointed four months ago, initiated an inquiry into the bond issue three months ago, said the JVP MP.
He also refuted claims that it was MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage who had proposed to COPE to investigate Mahendran.
