Teachers’ union objects to doctors’ request Featured

Government doctors staged a protest in front of the education ministry today (22), alleging the children of doctors getting transfers could not find state schools.

However, the Lanka Teachers’ Union objects to the demonstration, saying the GMOA’s request is against the law.

President of the union Priyantha Fernando says children should not be admitted outside the ministry circular.

Meanwhile, Ayurvedic doctors are planning trade union action if their demands are not met.

They staged a work stoppage recently, following which the health ministry said steps would be taken to grant them a Rs. 1,000 allowance.
