15 baby jumbos back to owners on court bonds

The Colombo chief magistrate’s court today (20) ordered that 15 baby elephants whose legal ownerships are embroiled in controversy be returned to their owners temporarily.

The court ordered the handover of the baby jumbos on Rs. 30 million bonds each until August 31.

Several persons have been accused of keeping unlicensed baby elephants, and some of them are presently in remand custody.

Meanwhile, one of the accused, judge Thilina Gamage has been sent on compulsory leave pending the completion of the case against him.
