According to the Department of Meteorology, the rainfall will lessen in the next two days and the high winds will gradually decrease.

Meanwhile, the cyclone Roanu is now located 950km northeastwards from Kankasanthurai and and is moving away from the country, it adds.

However, rains will continue in the provinces of Western, North East, Central and Sabaragamuwa as well as in the districts of Galle and Matara, the department further says.

Showers or thundershowers may occur after 2pm in several areas of the Eastern Province.

The department also warns of rough seas due do high winds.
