Visiting Sri Lankan President Sirisena met Prime Minister Modi over a working dinner hosted in Hyderabad House.
“Modi stressed on the need to develop a mechanism and find a permanent solution to the issue of fishermen straying into each other waters,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. The MEA also said,” Modi appreciated Sirisena’s efforts to promote reconciliation in Sri Lanka so that all sections of Sri Lankan society can live with equality and dignity.”
Speaking of the significance of Sirisena’s visit for the Simhastha Kumbha in Ujjain, Modi said it reflected the deep civilisational ties between the two nations. While thanking Modi for receiving him, Sirisena expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by New Delhi to Sri Lanka.

Apart from fishermen’s problems, the two leaders also discussed other issues of bilateral interest, including the status of various economic projects being implemented by India and efforts to increase trade and investment.
