Dinesh reveals why Champika shouldn't join CC meeting Featured

The Joint Opposition has urged the President and Speaker not to allow Constitutional Council (CC) member - minister Patali Champika Ranawaka to join the council's gathering today (18) to choose the next IGP.

Leader of the Joint Opposition - Dinesh Gunawardena has said that minister Ranawaka should not be a part of the gathering which will choose the next IGP as he is an individual linked to investigations that are currently being taken up before police and the judiciary.

The CC is to convene at 3pm today under the auspices of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

The three Senior Deputy Inspectors General tipped to be the next Inspector General of Police, namely S. M. Wickramasinghe, Pujith Jayasundara and Chandana Wickramaratne, are to appear before the CC as well.

The CC is to consider these three IGP hopefuls and and the common decision reached is to be conveyed to President Maithripala Sirisena.
