The three Senior Deputy Inspectors General tipped to be the next Inspector General of Police are to appear before the Constitution Council (CC) which will convene on April 18, reports say.

The three IGP hopefuls are Senior DIGs S. M. Wickramasinghe, Pujith Jayasundara and Chandana Wickramaratne.

The CC is to convene under the auspices of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and the common decision reached is to be conveyed to President Maithripala Sirisena.

Sri Lanka's 33rd Police Chief IGP N. K. Illangakoon, who joined the police in 1982 will officially retired on April 11 after five years of service at the helm.
