Three sniffer dogs from Kandy and Dambulla police led investigators to an abandoned house near a temple, from where the weapons were recovered.

Police believe the firearms had been brought in a vehicle and left at the location, which is around five km away from the Laggala police station.

One T-56 and five revolvers were found yesterday near a tank being used for bathing at Sandagala Vihara at Wellawala.

Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said the CID was investigating to find the person who had stolen the weapons.
