Malinga pulls out of PSL

Veteran Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga has pulled out of the inaugural edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) amid fear of getting injured before ICC World Twenty20 2016.

In a letter written to PSL’s management, Malinga’s agent has said that his client is currently in New Zealand to play ODI and T20 international series after which he is due to take part in World T20, scheduled to be held in India in March-April next year.

He said the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) doesn’t want Malinga to take any risk before the showpiece event; thus, he has been asked to withdraw from PSL.

The agent added that the doctors have advised Malinga not to play excessive cricket before World T20.

Malinga was placed in Platinum category in PSL draft list.

A total of 309 local and top foreign cricketers will be available at the draft, scheduled to be held in Lahore on Monday and Tuesday. The players have been divided into five categories – Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Emerging.

PSL will be played from February 4 to 24 in the United Arab Emirates.
