Why sudden decision for cricket election? Featured

Sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has taken a sudden decision to hold elections for Sri Lanka Cricket on January 03 following a conspiracy by interim committee secretary Chandra Schaffter yesterday (05) to grant permanency to 70 employees, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.

Schaffter had got the consent of chairman Sidath Wettimuny for his plan.

However, immediately after getting to know about it, the minister ordered a halt to permanency being granted.

Some already received permanency letters

But, some have already received letters of permanency, as human resources manager Lasith Mendis is a party to this conspiracy, say the sources.

Mendis too, is in the list employees getting permanency.

A majority of these 70 employees are loyal to former secretary Nishantha Ranatunga, who is accused of corruption.

They include CEO Ashley de Silva, while operations manager Carlton Bernardus has been omitted, claiming him to be too old.

Gayatri worked without contract

A secretary Gayatri Wickremasinghe, is another employees in the list, although her contract expired on October 31 and the interim committee, at a meeting on November 03, extended it for one year.

This means, she had continued to be in the institution for three days without a contract.

SLC has a staff of more than 225 and nearly 25 of them are permanent employees, while the rest is on contract.
